Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound elbow macaroni
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 4 cups milk
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the elbow macaroni until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 2 minutes while stirring.
- Gradually whisk in the milk and cook until the sauce thickens.
- Remove from heat and stir in mozzarella, cheddar, and Parmesan until smooth and creamy.
- Add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to taste.
- Combine the pasta with the cheese sauce until evenly coated.
- Optional: Transfer to a greased baking dish, sprinkle with breadcrumbs, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes until golden on top.
Notes
Cook pasta just until al dente to prevent mushiness. Whisk the butter and flour well to avoid lumps in your sauce. For a twist, add spinach, broccoli, or even cooked chicken or sausage for extra flavor.
