Description

Give your burger night a zesty twist with these juicy and boldly seasoned Southwest Turkey Burgers. Packed with flavor and fresh ingredients, this recipe is a healthier spin on a barbecue favorite that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (or crushed tortilla chips for extra flair)
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
  • 1/2 cup chopped bell peppers (any colors you like)
  • 1/4 cup chopped red onion
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chopped cilantro
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 whole wheat burger buns
  • Avocado slices, salsa, and cilantro for toppings

Instructions

  1. Combine the turkey, breadcrumbs, and egg in a bowl. Mix in taco seasoning, bell peppers, red onion, garlic, cilantro, salt, and pepper. Stir until just mixed to avoid dense patties.
  2. Shape the mixture into 4 patties. Press a small dip in the center of each to help them cook flat and evenly.
  3. Heat your grill or skillet to medium-high. Cook the patties for 5–7 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F and they’re nicely browned.
  4. With one minute left, add a cheese slice to each patty if desired. Cover to help it melt.
  5. Lightly toast the burger buns and build your burgers with avocado, salsa, and a sprinkle of fresh cilantro.

Notes

Don’t overmix the turkey mixture, keeping it tender makes all the difference. You can also make the patties a day ahead and chill until ready to cook. Try adding green chiles or swapping in plant-based cheese for dietary preferences.
