Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (or crushed tortilla chips for extra flair)
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
- 1/2 cup chopped bell peppers (any colors you like)
- 1/4 cup chopped red onion
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh chopped cilantro
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 whole wheat burger buns
- Avocado slices, salsa, and cilantro for toppings
Instructions
- Combine the turkey, breadcrumbs, and egg in a bowl. Mix in taco seasoning, bell peppers, red onion, garlic, cilantro, salt, and pepper. Stir until just mixed to avoid dense patties.
- Shape the mixture into 4 patties. Press a small dip in the center of each to help them cook flat and evenly.
- Heat your grill or skillet to medium-high. Cook the patties for 5–7 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F and they’re nicely browned.
- With one minute left, add a cheese slice to each patty if desired. Cover to help it melt.
- Lightly toast the burger buns and build your burgers with avocado, salsa, and a sprinkle of fresh cilantro.
Notes
Don’t overmix the turkey mixture, keeping it tender makes all the difference. You can also make the patties a day ahead and chill until ready to cook. Try adding green chiles or swapping in plant-based cheese for dietary preferences.
