Description

This Potatoes Au Gratin recipe delivers warm, creamy comfort in every bite. With soft layers of seasoned potatoes and bubbling cheese, it’s perfect for gatherings or cozy dinners at home.


Ingredients

  • 2 lbs russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream or half-and-half
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or Gruyere/mozzarella)
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix heavy cream, garlic, salt, and pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning.
  3. In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer half of the potato slices. Pour half the cream mixture over them and sprinkle with half of both cheeses.
  4. Repeat with remaining potatoes, cream, and cheeses. Make sure the top layer is fully covered with cheese.
  5. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes to soften the potatoes.
  6. Uncover and bake another 15–20 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
  7. Let it cool slightly. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving, if desired.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg to the cream mix. Roasted garlic or caramelized onions make great additions too. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven for best results.
