Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound thinly sliced beef (ribeye or sirloin)
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 large green bell pepper, sliced
- 2 cups provolone cheese, shredded
- 1 cup cream cheese, softened
- 8 slices bread (sourdough recommended)
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Sauté onions and peppers in a skillet over medium heat for 5-7 minutes until tender. Season with salt and pepper, remove and set aside.
- Cook beef in the same skillet until browned, then stir in the cooked veggies.
- Whisk eggs and milk in a bowl with a pinch of salt and pepper. Set aside.
- In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, place half the bread slices. Spread cream cheese over them, add half the beef mixture, and sprinkle with half the provolone.
- Repeat with another layer of bread, cream cheese, beef mixture, and the remaining provolone.
- Pour the egg and milk mixture evenly across the casserole, making sure the bread is soaked.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes until golden and bubbly. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, add jalapeños or use a spicy cheese blend. Leftovers keep well in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat nicely in the oven.
