Description

This Philly Cheesesteak Grilled Cheese Casserole blends all the savory flavors of a cheesesteak with the comfort of a baked casserole. Packed with beef, peppers, onions, and melty cheese layered with bread, this dish is hearty, cozy, and perfect for family dinners or gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound thinly sliced beef (ribeye or sirloin)
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 large green bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 cups provolone cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 8 slices bread (sourdough recommended)
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Sauté onions and peppers in a skillet over medium heat for 5-7 minutes until tender. Season with salt and pepper, remove and set aside.
  2. Cook beef in the same skillet until browned, then stir in the cooked veggies.
  3. Whisk eggs and milk in a bowl with a pinch of salt and pepper. Set aside.
  4. In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, place half the bread slices. Spread cream cheese over them, add half the beef mixture, and sprinkle with half the provolone.
  5. Repeat with another layer of bread, cream cheese, beef mixture, and the remaining provolone.
  6. Pour the egg and milk mixture evenly across the casserole, making sure the bread is soaked.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes until golden and bubbly. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, add jalapeños or use a spicy cheese blend. Leftovers keep well in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat nicely in the oven.
