Description
Crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, these jalapeño popper bites are the perfect snack or party appetizer. They deliver a spicy, cheesy punch in every bite and are simple to make.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened (can use low-fat)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or pepper jack for extra heat)
- 1/2 cup diced jalapeños, fresh or pickled
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (panko works well)
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 egg, beaten
- Oil for frying (or cooking spray for baking)
Instructions
- Combine cream cheese, shredded cheese, jalapeños, garlic powder, and onion powder in a large bowl until well mixed.
- Shape the mixture into small balls or patties about the size of a golf ball and place them on a lined baking sheet.
- Set up two bowls: one with the beaten egg and another with breadcrumbs. Dip each ball into the egg, then roll in breadcrumbs until fully coated.
- Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Fry the bites in batches for 3–4 minutes until golden and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
- Transfer to a paper towel–lined plate to drain excess oil. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Pat fresh jalapeños dry to prevent soggy bites. For a lighter version, bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
