- 1 pound bow tie pasta (or your favorite pasta shape)
- 1 pound Italian sausage (sweet or spicy)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cans (14.5 oz each) crushed tomatoes
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh basil, for garnish
- Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the bow tie pasta according to the package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, warm the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, cooking until soft and fragrant.
- Stir in the Italian sausage, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes or until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Add the crushed tomatoes and Italian seasoning. Season with salt and pepper. Let simmer for 10 minutes to blend the flavors.
- Combine the cooked pasta with the sauce in the skillet and toss to coat. Cook for another 2 minutes until heated through.
- Serve hot, topped with fresh basil and a good sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.
Notes
For a spicy kick, add red pepper flakes while browning the sausage. Store leftovers in the fridge and reheat gently. This dish is great for doubling and makes excellent next-day meals.
