Homemade Saltwater Taffy

  • Author: Navy Sinclair
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 30 to 40 pieces 1x

Description

Bring back those breezy boardwalk days with this nostalgic Homemade Saltwater Taffy. It’s soft, chewy, and full of flavor, perfect for gifting or sharing at your next summer get-together.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, mix the sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt. Stir over medium heat until the sugar fully dissolves.
  2. Once boiling, stop stirring and let the mixture reach 250°F (hard ball stage) using a candy thermometer.
  3. Take it off the heat and stir in the butter and vanilla extract. Add food coloring if desired.
  4. Pour the hot mixture into a greased baking dish and let it cool for 10 to 15 minutes until safe to touch.
  5. Butter your hands and begin pulling the taffy until it becomes glossy and light in color.
  6. Form the taffy into ropes, cut into bite-sized pieces, and wrap them individually in wax paper.

Notes

Use a candy thermometer to ensure your taffy sets correctly. Try different extracts like peppermint or almond for a flavor twist. For an extra punch, sprinkle a bit of sea salt on top before pulling.
