Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, mix the sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt. Stir over medium heat until the sugar fully dissolves.
- Once boiling, stop stirring and let the mixture reach 250°F (hard ball stage) using a candy thermometer.
- Take it off the heat and stir in the butter and vanilla extract. Add food coloring if desired.
- Pour the hot mixture into a greased baking dish and let it cool for 10 to 15 minutes until safe to touch.
- Butter your hands and begin pulling the taffy until it becomes glossy and light in color.
- Form the taffy into ropes, cut into bite-sized pieces, and wrap them individually in wax paper.
Notes
Use a candy thermometer to ensure your taffy sets correctly. Try different extracts like peppermint or almond for a flavor twist. For an extra punch, sprinkle a bit of sea salt on top before pulling.
