Description

  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • ¼ cup (60g) sour cream, room temperature
  • ½ cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 2 cups (240g) powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 2 tablespoons milk or cream
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Sprinkles for decorating

Instructions

  1. Whisk together flour, cornstarch, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Cream the butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and optional almond extract.
  4. Blend in the sour cream until smooth.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, being careful not to overmix.
  6. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  7. Roll out dough to ¼-inch thickness and cut with round cookie cutter.
  8. Place on parchment-lined baking sheets and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 8–9 minutes. Cool completely.
  9. Beat butter for frosting until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
  10. Slowly mix in milk or cream until frosting reaches spreadable consistency. Add food coloring if desired.
  11. Frost cooled cookies and top with sprinkles.
