Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • Parsley or Italian seasoning for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Add flour and salt, then mix in the melted butter. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Transfer dough to a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm area for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down dough and roll it out to about 1/2-inch thick.
  6. Use a pizza cutter to slice dough into strips, twist each into a heart shape, and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with parsley or seasoning.

Notes

For a savory kick, add minced garlic to the melted butter. These are best fresh, but they’ll keep in an airtight container for 2-3 days. Try dipping them in marinara for a fun appetizer.
