Description
Crispy, golden bread stuffed with melty cheese and savory garlic mushrooms – this Garlic Mushroom Grilled Cheese is the comfort food your soul craves. A classic with a delicious twist!
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 slices of your favorite bread (sourdough or whole wheat recommended)
- 2 cups fresh mushrooms, sliced (cremini or button mushrooms)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella or cheddar)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: Fresh herbs like thyme or parsley for garnish
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the mushrooms and cook until golden and tender, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté for another minute until aromatic. Season with salt and pepper, then remove from heat.
- Build the sandwiches by layering sautéed mushrooms and cheese between two slices of bread.
- Warm a non-stick skillet on medium-low heat. Toast the sandwiches until the bread is golden and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side, or until the cheese is fully melted.
- Let cool slightly, sprinkle with herbs if using, slice, and enjoy warm.
Notes
For a flavor boost, try adding crushed red pepper flakes while cooking the mushrooms. Mix and match cheeses – smoked gouda and sharp cheddar are amazing together. Double the filling to serve more or save leftovers for later.
