Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh chives (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a standard loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until well mixed.
- Add the cold butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work it into the flour until the texture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gently fold in the cheddar cheese and chives until evenly distributed.
- Pour in the milk and stir just until combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Scoop the dough into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let cool slightly in the pan before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For extra flavor, feel free to mix in chopped jalapeños, sun-dried tomatoes, or a sprinkle of garlic powder. Best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be kept in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days.
