- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
- Cream butter, sugar, and brown sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
- Beat in egg and vanilla until smooth.
- Gradually mix in dry ingredients until just combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips and nuts if desired.
- Drop tablespoon-sized dough balls onto a lined baking sheet, about 2 inches apart.
- Bake 10–12 minutes, until edges are set but centers look slightly underdone.
- Cool on baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
For extra flavor, add a pinch of espresso powder. Try swapping in white chocolate or peppermint chips for variety. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or freeze for up to 3 months.
