  • Author: Navy Sinclair
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 24 squares 1x

Description

These Crunchy Toffee Treats are sweet, buttery, and perfectly crisp – a nostalgic favorite ideal for sharing at gatherings or enjoying during a cozy night in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (can use margarine)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups graham cracker crumbs (or crushed cookies)
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (pecans or almonds, optional)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (dark, milk, or white)

Instructions

  1. In a heavy saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in granulated sugar, brown sugar, and corn syrup. Continue stirring until the mixture begins to bubble.
  2. Let it boil without stirring for about 5 minutes, or until it turns a light golden caramel color. Gently swirl the pan if needed.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Fold in graham cracker crumbs and nuts, if using.
  4. Spread mixture evenly in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Press it down firmly with a spatula and allow to cool completely.
  5. Melt the chocolate chips in a double boiler or microwave. Drizzle over the cooled toffee and smooth out with a spatula. Let the chocolate set.
  6. Cut into squares or bars and serve.

Notes

Add crushed peppermint candies on top during the chocolate drizzle step for a festive twist. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
