  • Yield: 1 loaf 1x

Description

Bring a slice of Italy to your table with this aromatic Copycat Italian Herb Bread. Bursting with garlic and a medley of dried herbs, it’s the perfect companion to any comforting meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (swap with whole wheat or gluten-free if desired)
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary

Instructions

  1. Mix warm water and yeast in a small bowl. Stir and let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, garlic powder, basil, oregano, thyme, and rosemary.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to dry ingredients. Stir until combined, using hands or a spoon if needed.
  4. Knead dough on a floured surface for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down dough and shape into one or two loaves. Place on parchment-lined baking sheet.
  7. Let shaped dough rest for 20–30 minutes.
  8. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden and sounds hollow when tapped underneath.
  9. Cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

Try kneading with a stand mixer for convenience. Feel free to mix in extras like chopped olives or sun-dried tomatoes. Great for turning into croutons or enjoying toasted with eggs.
