Description
Chewy, golden coconut macaroons made effortlessly at home. These treats are bursting with tropical flavor and are perfect for any sweet craving or festive gathering.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups shredded unsweetened coconut
- 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large egg whites
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Optional: 1/2 cup chocolate chips for dipping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mix together the shredded coconut, sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, and salt until fully combined.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form. Gently fold them into the coconut mixture without deflating them.
- Using a tablespoon, scoop the mixture onto the baking sheet in small mounds, spacing them slightly apart.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until tops are lightly golden. Monitor closely toward the end to prevent over-baking.
- Let macaroons cool for a few minutes on the sheet, then transfer to a wire rack. If desired, dip the bottoms in melted chocolate once cooled.
Notes
Macaroons can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 7 days or frozen for longer storage. For a flavor twist, try adding a few drops of almond extract or roll in toasted coconut before baking.
