Description

A cozy, cheesy cabbage casserole that’s as comforting as it is flavorful. Tender cabbage, melty cheese, and savory aromatics come together for a heartwarming bake you’ll crave often.


Ingredients

  • 1 medium green cabbage (about 23 lbs), chopped
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or a mix)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko preferred)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 cup olive oil or melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a large baking dish with olive oil.
  2. Boil chopped cabbage in a large pot for 5 minutes until tender. Drain thoroughly.
  3. Sauté onion and garlic in olive oil over medium heat until soft and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. In a large bowl, combine cabbage, sautéed mixture, sour cream, and half the cheese. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Spread the mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top, then cover with breadcrumbs.
  6. Drizzle olive oil or melted butter over the breadcrumbs and bake for 30-40 minutes until golden and bubbling.

Notes

Be sure to drain the cabbage well to avoid excess moisture. Great as a side or a main, and pairs wonderfully with a fresh salad.
