Description

A refreshing and vibrant Italian classic made with heirloom tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, fresh basil, and a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic. It’s simple, elegant, and perfect for warm days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 34 medium heirloom tomatoes, sliced into 1/2-inch rounds
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • About 20 fresh basil leaves, washed and dried
  • 23 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 12 tablespoons balsamic vinegar (thick, high-quality)
  • Pinch of salt, to taste
  • Cracked black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Slice the heirloom tomatoes into 1/2-inch thick rounds and remove any tough stem areas.
  2. Slice the mozzarella to match the size of the tomato slices.
  3. Rinse and pat dry the basil leaves, selecting the freshest ones.
  4. On a serving plate, layer the tomato slices, mozzarella, and basil leaves in an alternating pattern, either circular or linear.
  5. Drizzle olive oil evenly over the salad, followed by balsamic vinegar.
  6. Season with a pinch of salt and cracked black pepper just before serving.

Notes

Serve immediately for best flavor. This dish is ideal as an appetizer, light lunch, or side. Enjoy within 1–2 days if stored in an airtight container in the fridge.
