- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 1/3 cups (160g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (180g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×9-inch pan with parchment paper.
- For the brownie layer: melt 1/2 cup butter, then whisk in 1/3 cup cocoa powder until smooth.
- Stir in 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1/2 cup brown sugar until glossy.
- Whisk in 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth.
- Fold in 1/2 cup flour gently, then stir in 3/4 cup chocolate chips.
- Pour brownie batter into the prepared pan and smooth evenly.
- For the cookie layer: beat 1/2 cup softened butter, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and 1/4 cup brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Mix in 1 egg and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
- Add 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon baking soda, and 1 1/3 cups flour gradually.
- Fold in 1 cup chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
- Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough over brownie batter and gently press down.
- Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes, then uncover and bake an additional 20 minutes until top is golden and set.
- Cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares.
Notes
For a gooey texture, avoid overbaking and let brookies cool completely before slicing. Customize with nuts, caramel, or white chocolate for fun variations.
