- 3 ripe bananas, mashed (applesauce can be substituted)
- 1/3 cup melted butter
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- Pinch of salt
- 1 cup sugar (or brown sugar for a deeper flavor)
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (dark or semi-sweet)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 4×8-inch loaf pan.
- Mash bananas in a large bowl until smooth.
- Stir in melted butter until fully mixed.
- Add baking powder, baking soda, salt, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until just combined.
- Fold in flour until just incorporated, then mix in chocolate chips.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 60–65 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For extra flavor, try adding a teaspoon of cinnamon. You can also dust chocolate chips with a little flour before adding them to keep them from sinking.
