German Frikadellen

  • Author: Navy Sinclair
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

These traditional German frikadellen bring warmth and flavor to your table, with their crispy outside and juicy, tender center. A true comfort food that’s perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (gluten-free if preferred)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 tbsp dried)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • Oil for frying (canola or vegetable)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground meat, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, parsley, salt, pepper, paprika, and mustard. Mix thoroughly until everything is well incorporated.
  2. Shape the mixture into meatballs or patties, about 1 inch thick or to your preference.
  3. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat, just enough to cover the bottom of the pan.
  4. Add the frikadellen to the skillet without overcrowding. Cook 4–5 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil. Let rest a few minutes before serving.

Notes

You can add spices like cumin or coriander for extra flavor. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months. Reheat in a skillet or oven before enjoying.
